Hello, hello. Long time no see guys. It's been a very weird month for me, very draining. Lots of bad news, both personally and generally like in the news. It's all too much sometimes, like you don't even want to look at the news. So yeah, it's been weird but I'm determined to push past it all and embrace life as best as I can. How about you?

I've always preferred watching TV shows and series over movies, there's just something I love about the continuity that a series gives you. Also, there's nothing better than snuggling in your duvet with snacks and bingeing an entire season (or two) of your favourite show. I know I'm not the only one who sometimes struggles for what to watch so I've decided to share some of the things I've watched lately in case you happen to be looking for something new to watch as well. Enjoy. xx
Homecoming
Where: Netflix
If you've read this blog for long enough then you know that I stan Beyonce, hard. I even wrote a whole post on how she inspires me to be better and improve myself. Homecoming is a documentary on her critically acclaimed Coachella performance from last year. It was so much fun to watch the concert again and also see behind-the-scenes. I didn't know it was possible but the documentary made me admire her even more. The hard work, attention to detail, the planning, everything. She rehearsed for eight months for a two hour performance, that pretty much says it all right? And the fact that she did this after a traumatic pregnancy and delivery, it was like wow. It was also nice to see her vulnerabilities and insecurities, a reminder that everyone has them and that no one is perfect. Loved all the black excellence in this, so beautiful. Beyonce fan or not, I think this is pretty inspiring.
Race Across The World
Where: BBC iPlayer
This was so fun to watch, reminded me a lot of The Amazing Race. Used to watch that when I was younger. In Race Around The World, five pairs have to travel from London to Singapore without flying. All they have is £1300 (the price of a return ticket to Singapore) , a GPS tracker and a brochure full of odd jobs in different countries that they can do if they need money. No phones, bank cards or any other luxuries.
This was really interesting, imagine travelling from the UK to Singapore without flying? It was nice to see all the different countries that they had to travel through , witness all the culture and see the contestants grow, try new things and just enjoy the journey.Oh and get frustrated too haha. It's only like six episodes long so definitely the perfect show for a binge!
Selling Sunset
Where: Netflix
This is a reality TV show and is about the Oppenheim Group, a real estate company that deals with luxury property in the Hollywood Hills and its environs. Okay, first of all, *swoons*. The properties in this show are so gorgeous, like damn. To think people actually live in places like this? What a dream.
The show is your typical reality TV show, full of drama and stuff. I live for reality TV so this was right up my alley. I try not to judge people too much from reality TV because I know it can be scripted sometimes but wow, some of those women are so mean. Is it just for show or is it real? Who knows? It's pretty entertaining that's for sure. My one thing was that there wasn't really any diversity so I did a quick search of the company online and turns out that they do actually have a lot more staff (the show only follows the founders, twin brothers Jason & Brett and five of the women who work in the company). Maybe the other people just weren't interested in being part of the show. Anyways, if you enjoy reality TV then this is for you. Hopefully Netflix will green light season 2!
Mad Men
Where: Netflix
Okay so I know that this is not a new show or anything but I only started watching this last month and it's really good. For those not aware of the show, it's set in Madison Avenue, New York and is based on the golden era of the advertising companies in the 60's. The first thing that stood out to me in the show was the sexism and racism. Oh my goodness, it's insane. The things women had to put up with in that era are just ugh. Sexual harassment in the workplace, catcalling, doctors being reluctant to give you birth control pills as a single woman, shaming of divorced women, everything. This is why I laugh when I see people say stuff like "when were women ever oppressed". Women have always been oppressed, it's not as bad as the 60's anymore, thank God but it's still there. This topic gets me so heated so I'm just going to move on.
On a lighter note, I love how women dressed in the 60's. So many beautiful dresses and accessories, wow. Mad Men is an interesting show and even though I've only watched a couple of episodes, I look forward to watching more.
So, guys, these are some of the things I've watched recently. How about you? Do you have any recommendations for me? I'm always looking for new shows to add to my list!

I really want to watch Homecoming. I feel left out. Recommendation from me would be Killing Eve.

Ooh I've heard good things about Killing Eve, I love Sandra Oh so I'm sure I would enjoy this. Thank you babes, hope you get to watch Homecoming soon! xx
DeleteSo many great shows on Netflix! I really need to update my subscription haha.
ReplyDeletesarahrizaga.blogspot.com
yup, Netflix is filled with so many options. It can be so overwhelming at times haha!
DeleteMy husband and I decided to watch Selling Sunset on a whim and it quickly became our guilty pleasure! Kinda sad we binged through the episodes so quickly and I hope they do come out with season 2! We've also been loving Terrace House, a Japanese reality TV show that's totally different from any other reality TV series I've seen! It's weird but you almost feel like the people on there are your friends, and the whole show is very lighthearted, earnest, and sometimes inspiring, definitely worth watching!
ReplyDeleteI hope things get better for you next month!

Aw, thank you Jenny! I hope so too. I pretty much binged Selling Sunset as well so I can definitely relate. Terrace House sounds very intriguing, will check it out :)
DeleteI watched Homecoming last week! I hadn't seen Beyonce's Coachella performances before, or any Coachella performances, so I was really intrigued. I loved the behind-the-scenes the documentary showed us, and I have so much respect for what she does! I mean, we all know Beyonce is insanely talented, and I think most of us recognise that Beyonce works hard, but I also think that many people overlook just how hard she works because they attribute it to innate talent. Also, I like to think that my opinion on this is level-headed, as I'm not one to usually fangirl over anything ;P
ReplyDeleteYessss Selling Sunset hahah. I watched that last month! Ever since I thought I was going to be moving into my own place in NYC last summer, I've loooved apartment tours... and mansion tours ;P Now that I'm not looking for a place anymore (I'm sharing an apartment with a friend from college in Philly), it's even more fun to browse properties, because there's no stress attached. The last episode of Selling Sunset actually got my heart racing. It was kind of frustrating and overwhelming to watch :o I mean, I enjoyed it though :P I'd also love a second season!
Otherwise, this month I haven't been watching very much on Netflix. After finishing Criminal Minds ages ago, I've had to work hard to find stuff to watch ("work hard" lol). At the beginning of the month I finally watched Avengers Infinity War :P I haven't watched Endgame yet and haven't made any active plans to do so, but I do want to watch it eventually! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's
Yes, yes, yes to the Beyonce paragraph. You captured my thoughts perfectly. Omggg same, the season finale was a lot, emotionally speaking LMAO. Whew. I feel like we NEED a second season. I also love browsing properties that I cannot afford online hahah.
DeleteI know what you mean about finding content to watch on Netflix, there are so many choices and it can be hard to find one that ticks all the right boxes for you. Hope you get round to watching Endgame soon! xx
I was just looking for something to watch, and thanks to you I will go for Homecoming ♥

Yayy, awesome. Hope you enjoy and thanks so much for stopping by :)
DeleteI've watched homecoming twice, there's so much in that 2 hour documentary!

I've been having a pretty shitty time lately as well, a lot like what you described, but hopefully things will pick up for both of us soon!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen Homecoming yet but Beyonce is just incredible, so I really want to watch it. Even if someone doesn't like her music (how?) you can't deny how hardworking and successful and inspiring she is. I remember years ago I watched the first 4 seasons or so of Mad Men. It's suuuper sexist and racist and there are so many things about the characters that I hated, but it's an accurate depiction of the times, that's for sure. I also LOVE the women's outfits, Betty and Joan always looked so beautiful!

Home coming is a must watch, not for anything but how can I be a Beyoncé Stan without watching homecoming
