Thoughts On Turning Twenty

. 3.24.2019 .
Yesterday, the 23rd of March was my twentieth birthday. It still feels so weird to say, me? A whole twenty years old? It definitely feels like the years have just flown past. I remember being in grade 5 and celebrating my tenth birthday, wearing a red frou-frou dress and a pink bow in my hair. I also remember my thirteenth, I had a Justin Bieber themed cake. So cringey now but it was so cool back then. These memories feel very recent to me so it's definitely quite strange that I turned 20.It's also a reminder that I've had this blog for eight years as I started it back in 2011 at the age of 12. Really grateful to be alive to witness 20 though, I do not take that for granted.

Going into my 20's is both daunting and exciting. Daunting because of all the responsibilities that are only going to increase as the years go by and exciting because of the freedom and the opportunities. It really is going to be a wild but enjoyable ride and I look forward to every second of it.

When I think about what I want for this next decade of my life, I would say that I want to thrive. I want to keep on learning and unlearning. I want to completely shed my people pleasing ways - I've shed most of it but some stubborn parts still linger, haha. I want to be more in control of my emotions. I want to be more loving, always encouraging, the person that always has something soothing to say. I guess you could say that I'm really passionate about self-development.
As for how I spent the actual day, it was pretty chilled. The day before, my gorgeous friends took me out for a surprise lunch and it was so much fun. That's where the pictures in this post were taken. On my actual birthday, my cousin and I went into town to get a box of Krispy Kreme donuts instead of a cake. Of course, we had jollof rice (what's a Nigerian birthday without jollof) with grilled chicken wings and fried plantain. Rice and plantain will forever be my favourite thing to eat so that was a treat as always. I spent most of the day at home, replying to all the messages and well-wishes. I think that's my favourite part of birthdays, all the love that gets poured out. It's always so heart-warming.

This was a very 'me me me' post but as I guess it's to be expected in a birthday post haha. So here's to a new decade of growing, thriving and embarking on new adventures. xx
