Love From The Internet: New Year's Edition

. 1.04.2019 .
First of all guys, what do you think of the new blog theme? Like it or it's totally not your style? I planned on changing themes at the end of 2017 but it just never happened. As 2018, rolled to an end, I knew that I had to change it. I'd had my old theme since 2015 and was certainly due for a change.

So, I know my very last post before my unplanned break is a 'Love From The Internet' one and so this seems quite repetitive. But, towards the end of the year and at the beginning of a new year, the internet is full of articles and blog posts that are chock full of solid advice for navigating a new year. You guys know that I love a good article and so I just HAD to share. My blog is the one place that I feel like I can go on and on about the things that are important to me without being annoying.

I'll be sharing just three links; one is something to do that could help your mental health and foster gratitude, one is something to do that could improve you and one is full of life advice. Hope you find them as interesting as I found them. xx

Journaling
I've always loved the idea of journaling but I've never really been able to get into it. I've decided to give it a go in 2019 after reading this post by Abiola on her website. Not only does she share why she thinks journaling is beneficial, but she also shares prompts for people like me who would be clueless without them LOL. I'm really excited to try my hand at journaling this year. My cousin got me a beautiful journal for Christmas and I can't wait to use it. Will you be journalling this year?

Languages
At the start of 2018, I published one of my most popular posts till date, Why You Should Consider Learning A New Language. If you haven't already, you should totally check it out. I still wholeheartedly agree with all that I shared in that post and it even helped re-energize me as I recently started learning Spanish on Duolingo and was slacking a bit. Will you be learning a language this year?

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Speech at Harvard University
I'm pretty sure that I've mentioned on this blog that I'm a huge Chimamanda fan. I'm a fan of her writing, her books are part of my absolute faves. I'm also a fan of her and her views on feminism. So I guess it's safe to say that I completely STAN her. In 2018, she addressed the graduating students at Harvard University and I loved the advice that she gave. I truly believe that it's applicable to everyone. I always love Chimamanda's speeches but this one is very special to me. A line that stuck out to me is an Igbo proverb that she translated as thus:

Whenever you wake up is your morning. What matters is that you wake up.
You can watch the video here if you want and here's the link if you would prefer that.

So, there you have it guys. My three links to you for the new year. Which one stuck out to you the most?

  3. TBH I haven't been on your blog in the longest time! I havent been on anyones blogs in the longest times. But this is one of my goals for 2019! One of my biggest loves used to be blogging before my sisters 4 kids come into my care and I have neglected it quite a bit in recent years. A lot of blogs I used to love reading are now not in use thanks to other networks such as Snapchat and Instgram taking over, but I'm glad to still be a part of your readership! Your blog theme looks great!

  4. I love the blog theme. Giving it some subtle kind of vibe.
I STAN Chimamanda. I hate that she gets misunderstood a lot - like people, just hear her out. I also binge watch her talks on YouTube.
I also wrote a post on journaling last year - I'll link it below

    1. Thank you Chidinma! That's what I was going for. I know right, she really does especially in the Nigerian media which is so wild to me because she doesn't even have any controversial views in my opinion sha. Ooh thanks for linking that, will be checking it out. I need all the help I can get haha! xx

  6. Ummm your new theme is everything! Simple and beautiful!
I wholeheartedly agreee with the journaling thing. I started writing in a journal since first year of med school and every once in a while, I go back and read it. Still did that yesterday and there’s this amazing feeling I get for successfully documenting my life lol. 101% recommend it!

  7. Love the new theme! It's so clean and easy to read :) // I like the idea of learning languages, but I'm really bad at setting aside time for it. I wish I could have a private tutor come over regularly to teach me but $! In the past, I've tried learning French on Duolingo, but I would always fall off eventually. But this year, I'm trying to keep in mind that it's okay to miss a day or two or a few, as long as I get back to doing it eventually; missing a few days isn't a failure. Right after reading this post, I visited Duolingo for the first time this year, went to do a quick lesson, and then came back to comment haha. I also saw that Korean is now offered, so I might give that a try eventually. And I'd like to brush up on my Chinese by reading some books in Chinese. Good luck with your Spanish endeavors! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's
