2019: Create More, Consume Less

. 1.01.2019 .
Hey beautiful people, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I know we say this every year but I cannot believe 2018 is over, just like that?  2018 was quite an interesting year for me. It wasn't a phenomenal year per se but it was a lot better than 2017 and for that, I am so grateful. I am also grateful that not only am I alive to see the new year, but my loved ones are also here. That, to me is the most important thing. Every other thing is secondary.

Every year,  I like to give myself a word/saying and this year, my saying of choice is 'create more and consume less.' I decided on this saying after hearing Saida from Pick Up Limes (a wonderful YouTube channel & blog on slow living, nutrition and minimalism) use it as a mantra in one of her videos.
I decided on this because I feel like it really resonates with where I am in life at the moment. If you have the most recent ios update, then you know you can check your screen time. That is, how much time you spend on your phone broken down into different categories and apps. Let's just say that mine is pretty shameful. I spend so much of my time consuming things on the internet. Some are pretty beneficial and some are most definitely not. I've been making a lot of effort to use my phone less and I would love to get even better at this in 2019. I want to focus on spending my time creating. Be that here, on the blog or cooking something or working out, just more productivity and creativity in general. So, here's to creating more and consuming less in 2019.

I'm not going to lie, there's a lot of uncertainty right now in my life and I'm unsure of how things are going to go which is a bit scary but I'm choosing not to be scared and to focus on God because His plans are to prosper me and not to harm me. I feel like I've slightly gone off on a tangent here but I decided to share that in case anyone else needed the encouragement.

Once again, happy new year guys. What would you say is your mantra for 2019?

  1. Hi Demmie, glad you wrote a post finally. I was going to steal your mantra - "create more, consume less" because of exactly the same reason as you. I had a self reflection moment and I was sad at how much time I spent on Instagram especially. So, I set a two hour reminder to help me control the urge.

However, on my way back from a trip earlier this morning... as I watched the sun rise, I was listening to Seasons by Hillsong and then these words hit me ... "God if you are not done working, I'm not done waiting". There is always the urge to give up especially with how hard life throws lemons. I don't want to be that person this year so that's my mantra. Happy New year!

    1. Hi Chidinma, thank you for your support! I truly appreciate it. OMG I love that, it's funny because in church on Sunday, the pastor said something similar to this and I couldn't agree more. Happy New Year babe, wishing you every good thing! xx

  3. I love Pick Up Limes! I just started watching their channel. I think a good balance of creating and consuming is important. For me, every day is different; some days I create more, other days I consume more, and that's okay. I hope you have a great, creative year :)

Pick Up Limes is such a wholesome channel. You're right, balance is very important. One can't spend all of their time creating can they? Wishing you an amazing year! xx

  4. There's also a lot of uncertainty in my life right now, which has made me feel afraid, resulting in me feeling like I'm almost hiding from life. I didn't have a word in mind for this year, but this crossed my mind when I was reading another blog post about choosing a word/mantra for the year, and I realised that I wanted my word to be "yes." I know everyone's going on about setting your boundaries and knowing how to say "no," but I have no problem with saying "no" haha. Happy New Year Demilade! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's
