Currently Loving #3

Hey people, happy new month!  January felt like forever but February felt really fast, can anyone else relate. I'm not doing a February Summary this month because I don't really have a lot of highlights to share. If you're wondering how I spent Valentine's Day (which you probably aren't), I did spend it reading some good old historical romance and I loved it! The book's called The Secret by Julie Garwood and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's been a while since I read any romance novels so it felt really good and reminded me of why I love them so much! What's your favourite book genre?

It's been a while since I've done a 'currently loving' sort of post so I thought it would be fun to share some of the things that I've been enjoying lately.

The Grapevine
There's a YouTube channel called The Grapevine that I've been watching for a while now and I just have to talk about it!  They have panel-like discussions on various subjects that primarily affect or have to do with black people in particular. They've had episodes on gentrification, the divide between Africans, African-Americans and Caribbeans,white-washing, man-bashing, etc. Their newest episodes are on the slavery crisis in Libya and also on President Trump's comments on 'shit-hole' countries. The episodes are very enlightening and I always learn a lot. I recommend it even if you're not black,  knowledge is never wasted.

Henry London Watch*
I love watches, I actually feel like they're underrated as accessories. I've been meaning to get myself a nice watch which is why I was so delighted when Henry London reached out to me for a collaboration. I've seen and admired their watches on social media so it feels great to be working with them.

I was asked to pick a watch from their collection and I went with this simple, black one.  It was so hard to pick one as they've got really beautiful watches in different colours and styles. I ended up settling for the black one as it goes with every outfit. It's quite plain but that's what I love about it, the simplicity. I also really like the box it came in, it's very convenient for storage. All the watches I've had in the past came in square boxes but I think I prefer this rectangular box, all I've got to do is lay the watch inside!

You can get your watch engraved for an extra £10 which I think is awesome if you're gifting it to someone. I got the watch not too long ago so of course, I can't speak on how well the leather holds or anything like that. To be honest, everything looks like it's really good quality so I doubt that'll be a problem. Nevertheless, I'll do an update in a couple of months.

Friends
Recently, I started watching the TV show Friends again from the very beginning. I had actually forgotten just how hilarious it is, it's been a couple of years since I watched it. Before, my favourite girl was Rachel and my favourite guy was Ross but having watched the show afresh, that has changed. My favourite guy is now Chandler (I live for his one-liners) and my favourite girl is Monica. And I'm getting so much style inspiration from the show as well, people are not wrong when they say fashion is dynamic. Who's your favourite Friends character?

Pixi Glow Tonic
Ah, every blogger's fave. This is one product that's been raved about in the blogging world for years and I've always wanted to try it. It contains 5% Glycolic Acid, which is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid  (AHA) that a lot of skincare enthusiasts consider as the holy grail of chemical exfoliation. Glycolic Acid works by sloughing off dead skin cells to reveal smoother, brighter skin beneath.  The glow tonic also contains Aloe which helps to soothe the skin and Ginseng. I finally bought the 100 ML bottle and here's what I think of it.
Is it going to cure all your skincare woes? Hmm, not so sure about that. But is it going to do what it says - gently exfoliates to remove dead skin cells-?  Yes, it definitely will. Apart from my AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution from The Ordinary (read my review here) that I'm supposed to use once a week (which I usually forget to use if I'm being honest), this tonic is the only exfoliating product I've been using. When I go a couple of days without it, I can tell the difference. Especially around my nose.

It's gentle enough to be used in the morning and at night but I prefer to use it only at night as Glycolic Acid (and acids in general) make your skin more prone to sun damage. I always make sure I wear sunscreen the next day, which we all should be doing, to be honest.  Oh yeah, I don't use it every day. You probably can but I've decided not to after reading this genius post by Jenny of Geeky Posh on how we all need to cut back on exfoliation.

EDIT: This just came to my mind. If you hate paying for shipping like I do, order it from Derm Store. You get free shipping and 10% off as a new customer. I ended up paying $12 and not $15 for it. Not sponsored in any way, just thought to share.

Tony Moly I'm Real Sheet Mask
This mask was only in the picture above as a prop. It was gifted to me by my cousin and I had never used it or any mask from the Tony Moly line before. However, the day after this blog post was published, I decided to try it out because my face was quite dry and flaky (which is weird as I have combination to oily skin). I put the mask on after washing my face and left it for about thirty minutes while I watched Friends. When I took it off, the flakes were gone and I can say that it helped in moisturizing my face.

After getting such a nice result with this, I'm going to try to test out the other masks in the Tony Moly line. I believe you can get a pack of all of them for about $12 or so on Amazon/Ebay. Sheet masks aren't essential but they do feel good and work for the most part. If you're into them, you should check out this one!

That's pretty much it this time guys, talk to you in my next post. Enjoy your weekend! xx

  1. You're like the third person saying something about the series 'Friends' in recent times. A cue to check it out? Lol. I think I also prefer this case to the normal box like ones. And yes, we need to cut back on exfoliation, I think once in a week is fair. Happy New Month hun. xx

  2. Peeped your copy of The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives! One of my fave novels. I actually want to go read it again because I’ve forgotten a lot of the story. Omg! I re watched the seasons a few years back and I’d have to say my fave character is prob one of the boys - Chandler to be exact. Monica I feel like I can identify with on some level (see also: I might be a bit of a neat freak). Haha!

    1. I probably read that book at least once a year haha, I never get tired of reading it. Now that I think about it, I probably really like Monica because she's a neat freak too! That and the fact that her outfits are always so cute. Thanks Tiese <3

  3. I got a Daniel Wellington Classic Black watch maybe two years ago? And I love it! I wear it all the time :) I hadn't had a watch previously, unless you count the digital Baby-G watches I had back in middle school haha, so it's been a worthwhile investment! // I still haven't watched Friends all the way through but I keep meaning to! With the oddly wintry weather, I have a feeling that I'll be spending many evenings with Netflix // I love sheet masks! I prefer them over the kinds of masks you need to spread over your face, because I'm too lazy for that :P I think the Tony Moly masks are quite popular, though I haven't tried them myself yet! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's

    1. I've heard loads about Daniel Wellington, they have nice watches! Honestly, unwinding by watching Friends is always so fun, I can never not laugh when I watch it. OMG yes! I actually like the masks that you spread across your face because they're usually more cost effective but sometimes the thought of rinsing them off really stresses me out haha. Sheet masks are so much more convenient! Thanks for stopping by Audrey :)

    1. That's actually one of my favourite ways to get outfit ideas! I watch it on Netflix but I know that it's shown on DSTV. I can't remember what channel but it's the one where they play shows from the 90's. Thank you Amaka :)

  10. The watch is gorgeous!! I'm going to go and check out their website now. I'm in need of a new watch. My only one is a tiny silver one that I hate wearing to work because the catch is really dodgy! Plus, I love leather straps on watches :D

  13. I agree about Glow Tonic, it doesn’t cure everything, but my skin is used to regular exfoliation and I find that it helps keep it clear and smooth and it helps my other products that I put on top to penetrate more easily, so I love using it morning and night.

I haven’t watched Friends in years and years, but one of my good friends is obsessed with it and it’s her favourite show of all time, and now everyone is talking about it again it’s making me think about revisiting it.

  18. I absolutely love The Grapevine, I used to encourage my friends to watch it and they never did so its nice to finally find someone who really loves the platform and enjoys the show! Yes could Chandler BE anymore funnier lol! I love him and truly Phoebe has some really great one liners that no one pays attention to too! The Glow tonic is a favourite of mine also, I'm on my second bottle but weirdly I feel like my skins become "immune" to it. I use it anyway lol - x

True, Phoebe does have some really good one-liners. I know what you mean about your skin getting immune to it, I haven't gotten to that stage though. Thanks for reading Lavinya! xx
