Three Life Lessons I Learned in 2017

EDIT: I've decided to make this my last post of the year. I hope you're all having a wonderful holiday season and I'll see you guys in 2018. Which at the time of typing this, is in two days lol. Thank you so much for all the support on the blog this year, it is highly appreciated. Lots of love!

It's that time of the year where bloggers churn out seasonal and end-of-year content so I understand if you're rolling your eyes at my very typical post title.Nevertheless, you should read it. You just might take something out of it 😊

2017 was definitely not my best year. Like I just want it to go away you know? And yes, the start of a new year isn't going to make all my problems vanish magically but there's just something about a fresh start that's so appealing.

The year didn't go like I wanted it to or like I planned but that's okay. That's life for you, right? 2017 was a year of learning, unlearning and growing for me. And for that, I'm really grateful. I have way more than three lessons but this post is going to be long as hell if I do that lol. So let's dive into it, shall we?

God Should Be Number One// I know not everyone that reads my blog believes in God so if you don't, you can skip this one. I'm very guilty of subconsciously thinking I can do everything by myself. I tend to try to do things my way then when it doesn't work out, then I turn to God to help me. It's not even intentional you know? It's just something I noticed about myself and boy, am I glad that I did.

God should be number one, He shouldn't be your last resort. You should always go to Him first because, without Him, you can't really do anything. It's silly to believe you can do it all by yourself.

I Am Enough// I've mentioned many times on here that I have a habit of people-pleasing. It's definitely gotten a lot better this year thankfully. This is partly due to the fact that I remind myself that I am enough when I find myself slipping into people-pleaser mode.

I am enough. I don't need to bend over to fit anyone's idea of what I should be like. All the weird ass things about me are what complete me. And no matter what I do, it's impossible for everyone to like me and that's totally okay.

What's Yours Will Be Yours //  I found this quote on Instagram a few weeks back and it sums up all I would say perfectly. What's yours will be yours guys. When I catch myself stressing out and worrying, I remember this quote and it helps me calm down.
I love this quote so much, I think it's from the Quran but
I'm not so sure.
These are some of the things that I learned this year. How about you? Any special lessons?

  1. Number 1 is indeed very important, and as obvious as it is, it's something that we kinda have to relearn every now and then, I think. Also I love these quotes in the picture! So, so true.
A lovely little post, have a pleasant week! x

    1. I know right? It's something we definitely need to be reminded of from time to time. It's very easy to put God on the back burner when life gets busy/stressful. Thanks for reading Risa <3

  2. I agree with you on this. In everything we do, we should keep God in our side and always be grateful for the ups and downs of life. It might sound cliche, but everything happens for a reason and God has a better plan for us and that goes to accepting what's meant for us and what are not.

You are enough, yes. As long as you're happy in what you do and what you are. No need to fit on somebody else's standard. That's you, and you do you. Only you. You go girl!

    Have a great weekend, Demilade!

  7. Sorry to hear that 2017 wasn't the best year for you, but I think it's great that you're looking at it as a learning experience that will make 2018 even better. I so agree with #1 and I'm definitely guilty of not doing it enough this past year. I also love the quote you share at the end, sometimes we try so hard to fight for what we think is ours we miss out on something even better. Thank you for sharing this, and I hope you have an amazing 2018!

    1. Aww thank you Soty, glad you like the post. You're right, God should be our first consult and not the last resort. Definitely keeping that in my mind throughout this year and beyond. Thanks for reading and for your kind words, happy new year! xx

  13. Definitely agree with all of these! And I know I don’t know you personally (yet) but I think so highly of you and think you’re an awesome person! Lots of lessons in 2017 but the one I’m prioritizing is the need to understand and fall in love with my self and build my self confidence. I need it!
