Disappointing Beauty Products of 2017 (+ A Brief Word On The Libya Crisis)

Before I go into today's post, I just want to talk about what's been happening in Libya briefly. Anyone who's seen the news in the past week or so has probably learned about the slave auctions happening in Libya. Black Africans are being sold as slaves for a few hundred dollars. If you didn't know about it, you can learn more by doing a Google search. I'm so glad that the outrage is worldwide and something really has to be done. Slavery in 2017 is completely appalling. I read this post on Bustle about how to help stop this and I decided to share it. If we all come together, this can be stopped. Thank you.

Now onto today's post. I was looking through my blog recently, just evaluating really and I came to the realization that most of my blog posts fall under the 'Life' and 'Books' categories. I barely have anything in the 'Wellness and Beauty' category and I do not know why. Well, I'm going to change that one post at a time, starting with this one.
The end of the year is fast approaching and this is the time when 'content creators' do all sort of lists and recaps of the year. I'll be doing one of those today about some products that I felt were disappointing. Doesn't mean these products are bad, I just feel like they didn't live up to my expectations you know?

Disclaimer: When I say 'of 2017', it doesn't mean the product was created in 2017. It just means I discovered it this year.  As always, this is solely my opinion.

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 // I know what you're thinking, Demilade are you okay at all? Didn't you talk about this in your post on The Ordinary? You said you liked it and it was working great.

Hear me out, guys. I like this serum, I do. As I mentioned in the post it blurs my skin which I think is great. I was just expecting more with prolonged usage. My expectations were too high perhaps? It's a nice hydrating serum especially for the price but it doesn't wow me or anything you know? I tried one of those Garnier Moisture Bomb Sheet Masks and I feel like that gave me waaayyy more moisture.
Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation // This foundation is usually touted as one of the best drugstore foundations out there. Loads of people love it because of the price, the quality of the foundation and the fact that it has an impressive shade range for a drugstore foundation.

I remember wanting to buy this last year on Amazon but deciding against it because I couldn't determine my shade. The UK drugstores didn't start stocking the darker shades until this year but I had already lost interest. I was in a pharmacy about two weeks ago and I decided to buy it and give it a go. I was really excited to try this.

Let's just say I was quite disappointed. I don't wear foundation often but when I do, I want it to cover everything in one pump. In essence, I want it to look natural but at the same time give me super duper coverage. I didn't get that with this foundation though. Even with two layers, it doesn't cover up my hyperpigmentation the way I want it to. I feel like that's a bit forgivable but then after about two to three hours, it starts to fade away? That's unforgivable in my books.

I've tried different techniques as I really wanted it to work. Powder before foundation, with and without a primer, using my fingers, using a brush, using a sponge, everything. I guess it's just not going to work for me. I'm still going to use it all up before buying something new though, no wastage for me lol.

Cantu Leave-In Conditioning Cream// I bought this back in April when I was trying to restart my haircare routine. I wanted to try a new leave-in and people in the comment section of every wash day routine video that I watched on Youtube touted this as an amazing leave-in.

My hair gets as dry as a desert pretty quickly so leave-in conditioners are really important to me. No long story here, it just didn't work for my hair. I use a leave-in as part of the LOC method for moisturizing and it just didn't work the way my old leave-in worked. This really surprised me because I've used Cantu products in the past and they were good so I never experred it.

You can be sure that I used the entire container though. As I mentioned before, no wastage for me. I can't be wasting money like that abeg.

So that's my list guys, what do you think?  What are some beauty products you tried this year that totally 'fell your hand'? Or in other words that totally disappointed you? Let me know in the comments and I'll talk to you guys in my next post! xx

  2. I know quite a few people that have been disappointed with The Ordinary. It seems hit or miss! As for the Fit Me range, I do in general like it. The foundation worked really well for me.

  3. Uhh I was surprised to see the Ordinary serum in this list! I've been using it for 3 weeks now and well, not sure either. It's okay but I do not find it as good as expected, maybe my expectation were too high as well :)

  6. Slavery in 2017 is so.... like whaaat is this real?? So crazy, appalling, outrageous, sad :( // I don't use beauty products, but I still like reading/watching blogs/vlogs about it hehe. Interesting to see the flops, because there's so much content about what people love and empties and stuff like that :P -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's

    1. I know right? That was my reaction as well. This CANNOT die down, something must be done about it.

And I know right? I'm also guilty of always talking about the stuff that I love but not as much as those that flop. I feel they're equally important. Thanks for stopping by Audrey :)

  7. I use the Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid too and I love it, it gives me hydration and even though I don't notice any huge difference in how my skin looks and feels, when I stop using it my skin looks dull and tired so it must be working.
    Happy Saturday lovely!

  8. I recently found out about the slave auctions and it's appalling that this is still happening in the world. I'm glad it's being reported so that the world can be made aware of this and hopefully we can stop it together.

Anyways, I love the topic of the post! Usually people share their favorites, so it's nice to see posts about products that didn't work. I've been hearing mixed reviews about The Ordinary products and it's the main reason why I still haven't tried them out myself.
