Hello guys! How's your Monday going so far? I have a nasty cold and the most painful sore throat ever so I'm feeling a bit glum. Thankfully I have today and tomorrow off from school and hopefully that's enough time to recover.

The world has become so competitive and lots of people in your field are amazing at what they do. It's very easy to get caught up in inferiority. There was a time I actually stopped blogging because I felt my blog did not measure up. I even considered shutting it down completely because I felt "it wasn't good enough."
Even in our everyday lives, it's so easy to get caught up in the comparison game when we see our age mates/colleagues excelling and we feel like life is just passing us by. I'm here to tell you this afternoon that you should STOP IT. It's easier said than done but I believe constantly comparing yourself to others is really unhealthy. It breeds self doubt and eats at your confidence. If you're like me, it just makes you paranoid because you think everyone is comparing you to someone else the way you're comparing yourself.
In the Blogger Spotlight interview , Alma said something that really stuck with me: "Use other bloggers as a source of inspiration as opposed to measurement of success." This is applicable to all areas of our lives. Use successful people as inspiration to better yourself. There's no need using someone else as a measure of your success. Look at what these successful people are doing and see if you can learn something that'll be useful to you. I'm not saying copy them o but there's no harm in drawing inspiration from someone else .
As I said before, it's not very easy . But if you focus on doing you and bettering yourself, you won't even have the time to compare yourself to others. One of my mottos in life is "DO YOU." Trust me, it is so worth it. As cliche as this sounds, remember that you're amazing and you will do amazing things as long as you focus on improving yourself. Have a great week! xx
PS: If you didn't know already, I post twice a week. Mondays and Fridays to be exact .

So true Demilade
ReplyDeleteIt is so easy to start comparing and making yourself feel inferior but there really is no need for that because as someone once said: "We all have our own custom made crown. Yours won't fit anyone else".
I love the article ๐

That's such a lovely quote. Thank you for reading Ima! xx
DeleteThis happens! When I was just a two day old blogger, I was comparing myself with someone who had been blogging for two years, and I wrote about it in the link below. Can you just imagine! We need to just learn to nip these things in the bud. Makes no sense. Bloom where you are planted.

DeleteI know it's bad but sometimes I can't help it and it's so annoying. I've been struggling with this recently. It just came from nowhere and it's really hindering me from doing what I should be doing. I'm fighting it and i'd definitely win the battle. Thank you Demilade for sharing

ReplyDeleteBerry Dakara Blog
Ah no o! Berry you're such an amazing blogger, please don't. xx
DeleteI think the best thing to do is define what success means to you. That way, instead of constantly comparing yourself with others, you'll happy, content but determined to keep moving forward.

This is really good advice, thank you for sharing and for reading Ijenna. xx
DeleteYes we all are somewhat victims of this. We are all running a different race. I try my best to focus on me and how I can get better.

DeleteThe "not good enough" phrase has been holding many back from reaching their full potentials. We can only make positive impact if we start believing the opposite. Nice piece by the way, Demilade.
ReplyDeleteYes, it has hindered a lot of people from achieving amazing things, aww thank you Bolade. xx
DeleteLovely Post Dems. Comparing myself with other people is something I struggle with a lot, but I'm definitely taking your advice xx

Thank you Chi baby, love you! xx
DeleteIt's normal to want to look at other people's life or blog and compare it to ourselves. In the end though, people get used to your signature style of telling it your way and come to appreciate your unique method.
ReplyDeleteI really have to take a cue from you and pick a date to posr rather than post on a random date.
You're totally right.
DeleteAww so someone noticed my blog schedule haha.
Thanks for reading Cherish. xx
